Ways to Pray for Missionary Children

ways to pray for mks

Effective prayer for career missionaries and their families is a most important component of our partnership with them. Below are a few suggestions for how you can pray specifically for missionary children.

Pray for the salvation & spiritual growth of missionary children.

Every child needs to recognize his/her own personal need for salvation & establish his/her own walk with Christ.

1 Tim 4:12 “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Pray for missionary children to trust the sovereignty of God.

Missionary kids often experience more changes than your average child. Pray that these children will learn to trust God’s sovereign plan in every change of life.

Psalm 135: 6 “Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth…”

Proverbs 16:4 “The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.”

Pray that missionary kids will avail themselves of the unique opportunities available to them on the field.

Missionary children have extraordinary opportunities to live in other countries & experience other cultures. Pray that they would appreciate these opportunities and use their knowledge & experience for God’s glory.

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Pray for missionary children to realize where their true citizenship lies.

Missionary children are often bi-cultural, and many have dual citizenship. Pray that they will avoid identity crises and realize that their identity is in Christ and that through His Word, they will understand that no matter where one lives, this world is only a temporary home.

Philippians 3:20 “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Specific Prayer Requests

Pascal & Becky Grenade, Mauritius - Liam, Adrien, Ashlen, & Havva

Grenade Family with Havva!"We would ask you to pray that our kids would first of all place their faith in Christ, and secondly that they would stand strong in their faith as they attend public schools here. Our kids have Hindu friends, Muslim friends, and Catholic friends. Pray that they will be discerning in the years to come, and that they will be the light of Christ to their friends."

Josh & Melissa Daniel, Brazil - Troy, Eli, Alec, Joshua, Liam, & Livia

Blog featured image daniel" 1. For friends. For our second especially (Eli). His friend moved away over a year ago and he's had a hard time finding a new friend his age. (This) is important to him.

2. For spiritual discernment to understand why we are serving as missionaries overseas. Our children didn't have a choice about coming to Brazil. Pray that they can understand the cost of following the Lord and that it is worth it."

David & Sarah Booth, Portugal - Laura & Samuel

" 1. Pray that our kids would grow in grace and the knowledge of Jesus. Pray that they would grow to love the Lord more every day. It is encouraging to see them understanding the gospel and having a greater desire to know God.

2. Pray that God would help them in school to learn, to be courageous, and to be a testimony.

3. Pray that the ministry we do would not be a burden to them, but a joy."
