A Furlough Update
We have been in the United States for a month now. Although we miss our lives in Panamá, we are thankful for these three months of furlough. We have traveled to Alabama, Iowa, and, of course, Tennessee, and the travels continue. For those of you whom we have seen or spoken to, we have been blessed by your encouragement and excitement concerning what the Lord is doing in Panamá.
Iglesia Bautista de Costa Verde
As you may have read in our October newsletter, the Lord has led us to start a church in the community in which we live.
Our desire is that the Lord will use Costa Verde Baptist Church (Iglesia Bautista de Costa Verde) to:
- reach many people with the gospel,
- disciple them,
- train and equip men for pastoral ministry, and
- send them out to start more biblical spiritually healthy churches.
We are convinced that the Lord works through the local church.
It is His design. Therefore, we don’t have to develop new plans; we simply need to be faithful and obedient to the Lord. As we consider missions biblically, we see at least three common practices - presenting the gospel, planting churches, and strengthening existing churches. It’s simple but not always easy. However, once again, our responsibility is to be faithful and obedient; the results are up to the Lord.
Additionally, we realize there are spiritual needs everywhere, and we admit that we are biased - we have a heart for Panamá and Panamanians. However, we are convinced that the Lord could use Panamá as a center for training pastors and for sending missionaries throughout Central and South America and around the world.
We are thankful that a group of brothers and sisters in Christ continue to meet for Bible study while we are away. Nelson, who will pastor IBCV with Clip, is currently leading the group through a study of Ephesians.
Panamá Church Planting Initiative
The Panamá Church Planting Initiative is a fund that will help new churches in Panamá with start-up costs. The goal is for these new churches to be financially self-sustaining as quickly as possible.
Currently, we are seeking to raise $19,500 in order to help launch Costa Verde Baptist Church. The church has an official start date of February 2, 2020, and we think that with a little help the church can be financially independent after the first year. The specific needs of IBCV are funds to cover the cost of the first year’s rent, pay government and legal fees to legally register the church, and buy initial supplies (basic sound equipment, signs, and supplies for the Lord’s Supper).
Praise the Lord that we already have received $8,500 for this fund!
We would be honored if you would prayerfully consider giving a one-time special gift in order to help launch Iglesia Bautista de Costa Verde and help it be financially self-sustaining after the first year. You can give a tax-deductible gift through our mission agency by clicking on Panamá Church Planting Initiative.
Thank you for your prayers and your partnership in the gospel!
