Camp Refuge November 2018
This was our biggest camp ever with 150 people attending!
Our support team came from two churches that have continued to faithfully serve. (First Baptist Church of Feira De Santana and Rio Pequeno Baptist Church in Sao Paulo). Pictured, is Seminary student Amadeu who brought us the message along with Pastor Filipe.
There were eight adults and four older children who accepted Christ as their Savior!
Priscilla , Marcos, and their two little girls joined us for the first time. Similar to the story of Joni Eareckson Tada, Marcos sustained a spinal cord injury while in a swimming pool 15 years ago. We hope to see them again at Camp Refuge!
For each camp outreach, we have been dependent on one or more of our neighbors’ homes for a great number of our campers. We have rapidly outgrown our facility that sleeps 80 campers.
The house we have used for past camps, has recently been sold and after some discussion with Dinalva, it was decided that a second story on the original building could give us the much needed space for future camps.
We will need additional funding for the construction and hope to complete the project by April when a cooperative effort with a Joni & Friends-Wheels for the World team is scheduled. Please pray with us as we look forward to what God will accomplish this coming year. If you are able to contribute to our future plans to build and host a wheelchair outreach, visit our giving page.
Between events, the campers often get together to read and study scripture. It is a great opportunity for those with special needs to minister to one another.
Our volunteer team included our good friend Sandra from Colorado Springs. She was in charge of watching Luiza. Luiza was one of the first people to benefit from Camp Refuge many years ago.
Being able to move people to and from the beach is an important part of this ministry.
Thanksgiving is coming soon and it is a time to consider our blessings and thank God for our lives with Him. His gifts are indescribable! 2 Cor. 9:15
We thank God for you and the prayers on our behalf. We thank God for your financial support that enables us to provide camps for individuals that are disabled. We thank God for provision of wheelchairs and other equipment that gives mobility.
We thank God that we are able to dream of a future with more ministry to individuals that are disabled. A future of freedom to worship and access in the Church because of your gifts given freely.
2Cor 9:11 “We will take your many gifts to the people who need them. And they will give thanks to God.”
