DeLand Family December Update
Dear family, friends, and ministry partners,
We trust you had an excellent Thanksgiving reflecting on all the things that God has done for you in this past year. We had a different kind of Thanksgiving this year by celebrating with our good friends, Chris and Ashley Harris and their 2 boys, in the small town of Ayavirí.
From eating fresh trout at the river's edge to branding cows and carrying a huge load of rocks for a construction project, God allowed us to continue to build trust with the people and slowly discover their individual worldviews. which creates an open door for the Gospel to be presented with clarity.
During the week, Chris and I were eager to talk with a man named Filo whom Chris had already invested much time in. We discovered that Filo and his brother were working near Chris's house and decided to pay them a visit. We were not planning on staying long since they had a lot of work to finish up.
As we were getting ready to leave, however, Filo said he wanted to ask us a question. His question turned into an hour and a half conversation about Christ, good works, salvation, grace, the Catholic church, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the cost of following Christ. At the end of the conversation Filo stated that he wanted to choose to follow Christ, but was scared that his family and friends in town would reject him. We talked with him some more and prayed that God would continue to work in his heart.
The next morning a little before 7 am while I was praying for Filo, there was a knock at the door. To our surprise, Filo was outside. He said, "I just want you to know that I decided to give my life to Christ."
Praise God!!!!! We are so excited for Filo's courageous decision to count the cost and follow Christ!
This is a picture of Filo. We are so excited about his decision to follow Christ. Please keep him in your prayers as he will more than likely face mild persecution from the town people who are blinded by so much tradition and superstition.
A lot of our time in Ayavirí is spent building relationships through working alongside the people. This is a picture of Victoria explaining her potato growing technique to me. Please pray for her salvation, her husband Inocente, and her brother Alejandro.
Thankful for the opportunity to partner with the Harris family in Ayavirí.
Esther and Joseph enjoyed having "Uncle" Andrew around for a week. He served with us at LMCS 6 years ago!
We got to participate in a 5k in order to support 2 ministries that work with at-risk families.
1. Please pray for the salvation of Juan, Manuel, Joe, Daniel, and Mitchell.
2. Please pray for my trip to Ayavirí this weekend in order to start discipling Filo with Chris.
3. Please pray for our church's Christmas outreach in the park on December 18th.
4. Please pray for continued wisdom as we narrow down opportunities for ministry with university students.
Thanks for praying! Let us know how we can be praying for you!
