Dear Prayer Partners,
We recently sent out a brief prayer request for the medical campaign that we were helping with at the end of July. We praise God for the many people who were served during the campaign and for the group of volunteers from area churches, Pensacola Christian College, and churches in Lima and Bolivia. Many professions of faith were made during the week-long campaign. Please pray for the New Life Baptist Church in Urubamba as they follow up with those who expressed an interest. Everyone left with a few toiletries and a copy of the New Testament in Spanish or Quechua.
In our church, Eternal Life Baptist, here in Cusco we are fast approaching our 45th anniversary service at the end of this month, for which we are flying in a pastor from Lima, renting an auditorium in the town hall, and inviting our neighbors and many former members to a two-day conference on the family. We are thrilled to see more members interested in discipleship and have had 9 people complete a six-week study called, Who is Jesus Christ?, over the past few months as preparation for joining the church. Please pray for continued spiritual growth.
We have also been surveying the neighbors, passing out packets with gospel tracts and Gideon new testaments, and offering free in-home Bible studies. Several neighbors have begun the same Who is Jesus Christ? study and each lesson clearly presents the gospel. Please pray for fruit that remains.
We asked prayer before for Jesus Talavera who came to work with us here in the church. He is currently studying in the seminary and seeking the Lord's will for the future. Also, our pastoral intern, Elisban, has finished up his seminary classes that he needed to graduate and will continue to work with us and the church plant in Saylla until his wedding in December.
At the end of February we had our annual VBS right before the beginning of the school year here and that same Saturday we restarted our Bible club. The club is still going strong with the kids from our street and we are praying to branch out and reach more of the neighborhood. Some of the children from VBS and club have also been coming to Sunday school. Pray that we may reach the families of San Sebastian with the gospel of Christ.
Many of you know about our Cusco Project Fund that we started for the church building here. We were able to finish up the immediate remodeling of phase one fixing the second floor roof. We had been praying for phase two which would allow us to purchase land on either side of our current building. Recently our neighbor approached us about selling his lot and after praying about it for a month he lowered his asking price. We would need to raise about $65,000 to purchase it and cover paperwork costs. If you would like to give to this project you may donate through our mission's website.
Thank you for your prayers on behalf of God's work here in Peru!
