Greetings from Brazil!
We want to thank you all for your continued support and prayers for our family and for the ministry here in Barreiras, in NE Brazil. We are excited to report about what is happening here and about the progress that we are making in the church and on the land.
The church land has been cleared and leveled! We are making progress and have begun the preparation for building the wall. The footers for the wall begin this week. We appreciate your prayers and investment along the way. We still have a ways to go and we are thrilled to have begun construction. We have a Thanksgiving Service planned on the property in a few weeks. Praise the Lord for His provision and direction along the way.
After Sunday School, some of our church members went to the land to see the progress. We sang a beautiful hymn that says "Our dwelling is built on the Rock. Firm and secure it will remain. When the storm comes against it, it will resist with all its power". We as a church are thankful for the Rock on which we are firmly planted - Jesus Christ. After singing we read from Colossians 1 about Christ having preeminence in our lives and in our church. He is our Cornerstone. He is our Rock. He is our Message!
Leaders from within...
Melissa and I enjoyed leading and working with our college and young adults for several years. They are an exciting, creative and faithful group in our church. They are dedicated and we have loved seeing them grow and serve. However, we realized that we needed to invest more time with other areas, especially with our married couples. We were already leading Bible studies and counseling with couples but the need has become greater recently.
So we began praying about a couple to lead the young adult ministry. The Lord supplied that need with a young married couple in our church. They've been faithful to the Lord and have proven to be faithful to their duties in the church as well. We're grateful for their service and dedication. And the young adult ministry is moving right along! This picture shows them conducting an organizational meeting for an upcoming conference.
Six ladies are preparing to attend their first Women's Conference, in August. When we called to inquire about the rooms at the conference hotel, we booked the very last one! Pray for these dear ladies that have true servant's hearts and that are always hard at work in the ministry here.
One of our goals this year is to strengthen our men's ministry. We had a great time at Saturday's Churrasco (Brazilian-style BBQ) and Bible Study. I ask for you to pray for the men as we seek to go deeper in the faith and become what God intends for us to be. Pictured is about half of the men in attendance.
Our annual church retreat in February was a success. We had over 40 in attendance. Our them was Biblical Faith and we studied some of the principal figures of Hebrews 11. It was a special treat to be able to baptize our 3rd son, Alec. Our retreats always produce great results among our church body. It was no different this year. We especially enjoyed a new family for a couple of days. The husband, Ederson, is unsaved. His wife recently joined the church and she said it was a miracle that he participated. Pray for him! We know God is drawing him closer to salvation.
