Our Return to Brazil

Greetings from Barreiras!

We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas this year! We spent a few days at the river during Christmas week to have some relaxing family time. We have enjoyed our time back in Brazil since we returned about 6 weeks ago.

We were so well received upon our return. As we drove up to the house from the airport, we noticed right away that something was very different. Some of the church members surprised us by having the exterior of the house and the wall surrounding the house painted. It’s a project I had been putting off until we returned. What a treat! Then another member bought some groceries so that we wouldn’t have to worry about that for a day or two. We were, needless to say, overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and kindness.

The very day we arrived back in Barreiras we began our church’s 5th Anniversary celebration. It was a great time to be reunited with our church family here and praise the Lord for His continued blessing on the ministry. We had a great two days of services. Our guest speaker, Fabrício (a pastor who is originally from our town and now pastors about 6 hours away) did an excellent job of expositing the Scriptures and challenging us to be “Strong in the Lord” as we approach our coming days and years as a church. We certainly have a job to do and we are praying for God to prepare us to be faithful to His mission for the church. Pictured are most of the ladies who presented a special song for the anniversary of the church.

Probably the best news we received upon our return to Brazil was to hear about one of our members who had spent several weeks in a Bible study with a young lady. Annie, one of our faithful and active members, met weekly with Karine, who has been visiting the church for about 6 months now. The week before we returned to Brazil, in their last meeting of the study, Karine said that she was ready to follow Jesus Christ as her Savior. That night she accepted the free gift of salvation! He is still working!

We have finished pouring the concrete sub-flooring. We are now preparing to build the walls for the second story of the building that will house extra classrooms in the future. After that, we will cover the building with a metal roofing structure, install electrical wiring, doors, windows and the flooring. We are excited to see the progress. Our prayer is that we can be in the building, using it for services, within about 6 months!

For that to happen, we still need your help. We continue to do all we can on our end. We invest 80% of our church’s budget each month into the construction process, as well as special events to raise more funds. Next week we will have another “Bazar" (like a garage sale), which is always a huge success.

Will you please pray with us that we will be able to get into the building in 2020? Some of you have given to the project recently and we want you to know that we are grateful for your contributions. Please know that they are being used to expand this ministry that seeks to faithfully preach and teach God’s Word and the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you! If others of you would like, you may donate to help us with this project.

To donate to the construction project, you can make a donation online or you can mail a donation to GFMA, PO Box 3326, Chattanooga, TN 37404. Checks must be made out to “GFMA” and clearly labeled “Barreiras Project” in the memo line.

We want to especially say thank you to some our new ministry partners. The Lord has answered our prayer with a couple of new ministry partners! May God bless each of you! As we close out 2019, we want to thank you all for the part you have played in helping us get this far! To God be the glory! We look forward to our partnership throughout 2020. May God accomplish His will through us all.
