Steve Trexler - Serving Jesus in Liberia
Dear Prayer Partners,
And we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Yesterday I visited the small interior village of Gboimue, the location of the first church plant I was able to work with here. It is always good to visit them and encourage them from God’s Word. Prior to church I was asked to go see a young girl with severe abdominal pain who had had a C-section a week ago. I decided I would take her back to our clinic for treatment after church.
I was taking one of the members home after church and as we traveled up a rough road my ball joint broke and suddenly the car was resting on my displaced tire. Not a good scene on Sunday in the bush. All the phone numbers I called were “Either switched off or out of coverage area.” I had a couple students and children from the neighborhood and a sick young lady who needed transport, but no vehicle. Now what? In America you’re a call to AAA and a tow truck will at least getting the car taken care of. But here in Liberia, and I love this, things don’t work quite like that.
I caught a motorbike taxi and took the 15 mile trip back to Gbarnga, went to my local mechanic (who always smiles when he sees me coming), purchased a new ball joint, and another of his mechanics was on his way back into the bush to fix my car. No Problem! I made my way back to the clinic and before long my car arrives with the sick girl and all the other passengers. God is good! So are the many things like this that happen here where our Liberians friends are able to handle for us in a tremendous way.
This Saturday our team has a workshop for the potential leaders from our various churches and on Sunday we will be having a one day conference with the church plants I’m involved with. Please pray for the Lord to lead me in my teaching and preaching. The missionary physician assistant’s school is moving along well (seven of nine trimesters) as we approach mid-term exams. Please pray for our students and for the Lord to begin preparing a workplace for them even now.
