The Wears Family Prayer Letter & Updates
2020 was a difficult year for all of us. For our family, it is a year we will never forget but not necessarily for the “good” things. We’ve been reminded, however, that it is easy to focus on the negative and to forget the positive. Sometimes, like this past year, it’s a little more challenging to see the positive because of the overwhelming difficulties that we face. And yet isn’t it these times when we are most reminded of God and His goodness to us? So often we have prayed to God “You are all we have. There is no one else who can help us. God we need you.” And this is right where we need to be.
For these reasons, we give thanks to God for the year of 2020. God protected our sweet Zoe as she needed 2 surgeries for her heart condition. God was with us when our 9 month old niece/cousin died and provided for Michelle to make it back to the states for her funeral. God gave great wisdom and peace as we watched Karis become sick - so sick that she lost 23% of her body weight - and then be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. And God has been so gracious to allow our mom/grandma to still be here on this earth with us. (For those of you that don’t know, Michelle’s mom had a ruptured aneurysm and stroke in October. She spent about 8 weeks in the hospital but is now home. We praise the Lord for this!)
Our plans for this year have changed a bit and we are learning even more about trusting our God who knows all things. We were just informed that we will need to move out of our apartment by April. We weren’t planning on this and ask for your prayers that we will be able to find affordable housing. We would like to move to Alcochete. Some of the challenges will be the price - apartments and homes can be very expensive - and also availability. With Covid restrictions, finding housing could be even more of a challenge than normal.
We are also planning a return to the states. We would like to leave in June and return to Portugal in January, 2022. There are many details to work out before we leave so we definitely appreciate your prayers for wisdom.
As always, we thank God for you all! And we’re looking forward to seeing you this year!!

David & Michelle Wears
