Theology, Picnics, & Holy Week
Since January of this year, we have begun to meet in two different locations due to our home not being large enough to host so many people. Shaun and his family have been meeting with the new group in their home at our second location.
This new group has a great number of foreign students from all over the world who speak English. It is bittersweet to see them go back home, but we are able to minister to them and see them grow in Christ as they study here.
Here we are in Parque Alamillo having a church picnic.
Because of the need for the second meeting place, we have to be intentional about meeting together during the month to keep in touch with those of our church who we don't normally see. Here is our monthly night of worship, communion and scripture reading at a coffee shop in Sevilla.
Here on the right, some of us are meeting together weekly to do a seminary course on systematic theology. "If we don't know the Bible, if we don't know doctrine, if we don't know theology, it is virtually impossible for us to identify false prophets."
Last month was Holy Week here in Spain. Thousands and thousands of people gathered to see the processions of statues and relics pass by. Many do it just for fun, but many also do it hoping to somehow achieve peace with God through their dedication. We must be faithful to the Word and not be ashamed of the Gospel. We must preach salvation by grace alone by faith alone and in Christ alone all for the glory of God alone. Pray for our church as we continue to unashamedly preach Christ!
This book has been absolutely epic for me and I am on my second time through. However you put it, the fear of man can be summarized this way: We replace God with people. Instead of a biblically guided fear of the Lord, we fear others. Of course, the “fear of man” goes by other names. When we are in our teens, it is called “peer pressure.” When we are older, it is called “people-pleasing.” Recently, it has been called “codependency.” With these labels in mind, we can spot the fear of man everywhere. Diagnosis is fairly straightforward. Until we have a biblical view of God, we will continue to struggle with the fear of man.
God bless you guys and thank you so much for being a part of what is going on here in Spain!
