Update from Panamà from Clip & Mary Suddeth
Dear Partners in the Gospel,
A whirlwind! That would begin to describe our first few weeks in Panamá. We have been going non-stop since we arrived on August 13, and we are thrilled to be where the Lord has called us! Nothing has been easy, but it's certainly been an adventure. If we could sit down with you, there is so much we could share. Perhaps we can share more information on our blog at a later time, but this is an update, right? Which implies short.
• We will continue to make connections with pastors and leaders here, and that we will build solid relationships and trust with each of them. This is already happening, and we look forward to the future.
• We will get the final papers for our vehicle wishing the next week.
• Our family will be close to each other and to the Lord during this time of so many changes.
• We will continue to improve in our Spanish. Panamanian Spanish is different from Costa Rican Spanish.
We have been meeting national pastors, believers, and other missionaries over the past few weeks. One pastor, Dolores, is the president of his association. He invited Clip to attend their next pastors' meeting on November 19. This is a strategic opportunity to be introduced to other pastors by someone whom they trust. In the next couple of weeks, we are planning to make the five hour drive to spend some time with Dolores and his wife, so that we can encourage them, pray with them, and learn from them. We are also planning to take a trip to Santiago (a city about 4 hours north of where we live) in the next couple of weeks in order to meet with Cristobal, a missionary from Ecuador. Our meeting with him could be very strategic for training pastors and for equipping teachers to take the gospel throughout all of Panamá. Our goals, vision, and commitment are stronger than ever. We can't help but envision Panamanian pastors and leaders discipling their people, who reach and disciple others, so that Panamá and much of the world is impacted for the Kingdom of God. This is not an easy task, but it can be done. It won't be done in our strength, but as we do the Lord's work, the Lord's way, for the Lord's glory.
We are always encouraged by the promises and commands of Jesus. According to 1 John 5, if we ask anything according to His will, we know that He hears us; and we know that if He hears us, we have the things we ask of Him. Connecting that promise to the Great Commission, if we are asking Jesus to help us make disciples, there is no way in the world His answer will be "no".
The task each believer has been given to make disciples cannot fail! As we invest in pastors and their wives, we are strategically giving them the tools they need to do exactly what God wants them to do. This work is so exciting!
We arrived to Panamá from Costa Rica on August 13. This picture was taken in the parking lot of the airport.
After staying with Kenny and
Cheryl for a little over two weeks,
we are moving to our house in La
Mary and Cheryl in the driveway of Kenny and Cheryl's house. Kenny and Cheryl Morris (missionaries here) have been more help to us than we could ever express. They have truly been a gift from the Lord and have been great friends to us. Additionally, through Kenny and Cheryl we are making connections with national pastors and other missionaries. There are many needs and opportunities in Panamá.
This is the ministry vehicle you helped provide. It's a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder. It's diesel, 4x4, seats 7, and has 93,500 km. It is a tool that will help us effectively serve here for many years. We now have a current license plate and insurance, so we can legally drive it. However, we are still waiting to receive all of the needed papers. Please continue to pray with us about this.
